Calendar Series
Meredith was always on the alert for jigsaw-worthy prints and was delighted to find this wildlife calendar. He bought 20 copies and in 2008 said he’d cut 172 jigsaws from them. The 9x9in jigsaws typically contain 110-140pc each and are packed in small turquoise boxes (occasionally white boxes). One known example of the January jigsaw includes a 1984 date, as part of the printed label cut from the calendar.
Peter Barrett's beautiful illustrations show countryside scenes with naturalistic flora & fauna in their habitats. Similar illustrations also appeared on a L/E series of Royal Worcester 9in collectible plates from 1979.
Meredith’s cutting notebook is preserved by BCD and the data was captured in a spreadsheet (Aug 2026). This series is by far the most numerous of his adult titles, with the incomplete notebook recording the cutting of 19 copies (for August & November) down to 12 copies (for May & September) of these prints. The first recorded in the notebook was no186 February, the first dated record was no468 February (in 1985) and the last entry no1614 April (in 2007). The cutting record suggests they were cut as required and sold individually, although there are runs where Meredith was stocking up the series.
In 2014 a complete series of jigsaws was donated to a charity and sold individually on ebay. I won three and discovered nine had been won by another BCD member. The set was reunited, when she later agreed to sell me her nine jigsaws. The twelve can be mixed in combinations to form a jigsaw challenge for any mood from snack to marathon. They were displayed together at the 2024 BCD House Party.
