Jungle Cut-Out

A plywood wooden jigsaw puzzle from Victory made during the 1960's and 1970's and featuring a fully interlocking cut along with twelve cut-out animals typically seen in jungles and savannas of Africa and Asia.

Three different examples have been encountered:-

Three-ply with slotted stands to mount the animal cut-outs, which can be seen in the c1937 catalogue, but not in the 1952 catalogue. Some thin sections have broken away due to the thinness of the substrate.

Seven-ply so animals can be stood up without the need for stands, which can be seen in the 1952 catalogue. More robust due to the extra thickness.

Six-ply (3-ply back to back) with no stands. Has additional four-digit index number and "Spears" on the label so made after 1970.

A smaller T7 Play Tray jigsaw measuring 15.5x9in was made, with piece thicknesses 5mm and 7-8mm. It appears in the 1937 catalogue for 3s 6d. A more sophisticated grooved box which allows the pieces stand sold for 4s 6d. See later photos below.
