Untitled-Marine Parade, Brighton, The

Non-interlocking, solid wood backed jigsaw puzzle, estimated to be of c1910 production and one of several issued under the series title of "Famous Coaching Scenes (Dickens Period)". The signature is only partially visible, but is identifiable as being by John Charles Maggs, (British, 1819-1896), famous for paintings of this subject and style.

This puzzle was almost certainly cut by London-based William Peacock & Sons, who were prolific manufacturers of this era and were evidently supplying puzzles to several other London retailers, such as can be seen in this very similarly labelled and identically numbered example, marketed by nearby Selridge's , also featuring artwork by J.C. Maggs.

The puzzle is housed in a sturdy red box with lift-off lid and no guide picture.
